Home Movie Film Transfer to Digital - Preserve Your family Heritage

Relive the memories of years gone by with our home movie film transfer to MP4 or DVD service. No need to struggle with old projectors and screens. We transfer your 8mm, Super 8 and 16mm film to MP4 (highly suggested) or DVD so they’re easy to enjoy on any device.

Your film will be transferred using a direct to digital system ensuring full frame visibility! All of the work is done right here in LaSalle, IL. We never send it away!

Original boxes of film are 50 feet in length. Your film reels may have already been spliced together on larger reels years ago.

You can tell how much film you have by looking at the side of the reel. A gauge from the center hole on the reel outward shows 50, 100, 150, 200, or 400 feet.

Your film will be returned in the same or better condition than when you brought it in when using our home movie transfer service.

I originally wanted my film transferred to DVD but after reading about the advantages of MP4 I went that route. I had about 5000 feet of film and it came all in one file on a USB. They even edited out the leaders and long dead spots.

It's so nice to see my grandparents on film as I never met them in person. I was surprised to see how nice the film turned out, the colors are beautiful.

We were given a box of old family film and almost threw it out. We decided to drop it off at TME and so glad we did. So many relatives who've long passed on were on the reels. Old Christmases, vacations, you name it. I'm passing this on to my grandchildren.

I had a bunch of old duck hunting super 8 movies of me and my brothers from the early 70's. I wasn't even sure the film was playable but Media Transfer Pros did an outstanding job with the transfer.

Q&A on Film Transfer

Our system utilizes an edge to edge direct to digital process with comparable results to frame by frame systems. We capture the entire image. There is no cropping of any kind. There will be black bars on the sides due to the different aspect ratio of your film compared to modern widescreen devices.

As the chart above illustrates, your film is on 50, 200, 300 or 400 foot reels. One side of the reel has a numbered gauge showing the number of feet. Simply add up the feet for a total.

It’s possible there is written information on the outside of your reel boxes or cans. Arrange them in the best chronological order possible and mark numerically. We will transfer them sequentially if you number them, otherwise they’ll be in random order.

The best format is MP4 delivered on a USB stick. The main reason is there’s no runtime limit on the amount of film. There is a 2 hour time limit on a DVD so if you have a large project it will span several DVDs.

DVDs are not editable directly but it is possible to extract or “rip” them for editing on a computer. The edited video can then be burned back to DVD with no appreciable degradation. It can also be converted to MP4 at that point. There is a $65 per hour editing fee and customers must be present during the edit.

While any USB drive works for storage, you must use a high speed USB for playback without glitches or pauses.

Absolutely. Your film will be returned in the same or better condition than when you brought it in.

We try to complete orders a few days. Large orders may take longer. Call us if you need your order by a certain date.

Absolutely not. All work is done in LaSalle. Drop-off and pickup is at Technology Made Easy in Peru.

In most cases no with the exception of purchasing a USB thumb drive. You can purchase one at TME or supply your own high speed drive.
